Traffic Inspector Killed in Tragic Hit-and-Run Accident Near Ara During Bakrid Travels

Araria Road Accident Three Youths Killed in Pickup vs Bike Collision on NH 47

KKN Gurugram Desk | In a tragic accident on the Ara–Buxar four-lane highway in Bihar’s Bhojpur district, Traffic Inspector Mohammad Jalaluddin lost his life on Bakrid day after a devastating crash with a truck. The accident occurred near Shahpur while he was returning home, leaving the Inspector dead at the scene and his driver critically injured.

According to eyewitnesses, Jalaluddin was driving his private car back to his native village in Buxar after duty when the speeding truck approached from the front. The collision was so forceful that the front end of the car was shredded, killing the Inspector instantly while the driver was gravely injured. Local residents quickly alerted the Shahpur police and emergency services, who rushed the injured to Ara Sadar Hospital. Unfortunately, the driver passed away before he could receive treatment.

 Family Statement

Inspector Jalaluddin’s son, Irfan, confirmed:

“My father died in a road accident while returning home for Bakrid sacrifice.”

He revealed that Jalaluddin was on leave and was heading back home for the festival when the fatal crash took place. The accident has come as a huge shock to the family, especially during this festive occasion.

 Police Investigation & Evidence Collection

Shahpur police, responding promptly, impounded both the truck and the car. Bhojpur district authorities are conducting a full investigation to determine contributing factors, such as:

  • Driver negligence or high speed

  • Road safety and signage

  • Impact of holiday rush and possible fatigue

The local Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) has issued directives for a thorough probe into whether violations occurred and to prevent further tragedies.

 Highway Safety: A Pressing Concern

This incident renews concerns over safety on Ara–Buxar four-lane road, a busy highway in Bihar prone to speed-related accidents. Drivers and residents have repeatedly demanded:

  • Traffic calming measures such as speed breakers

  • Better road signage and visibility controls

  • Stricter enforcement of helmet and belt laws

Despite government efforts, repeated collisions near this stretch reflect persistent gaps in enforcement.

 Legal Implications & Next Steps

Police are likely to file charges under:

  • Indian Penal Code Section 279 (rash driving)

  • Section 304A (causing death by negligence)

The investigation team is examining CCTV footage, eyewitness reports, and vehicle speed data to determine liability. The driver of the truck is currently absconding, and authorities have launched a manhunt.

Why It Matters

  • Festive casualties: Accidents during major festivals like Bakrid and Teej often overshadow celebrations

  • Police service families: Such losses of serving officers deeply affect law enforcement morale

  • Highway safety: Lack of physical infrastructure remains a persistent problem

  • Policy urgency: Road traffic deaths demand immediate administrative and legislative action

The tragic death of Inspector Mohammad Jalaluddin on his way home for Bakrid is a heartbreaking reminder of Bihar’s persistent highway safety issues. As police investigate, the incident highlights the urgent need for better road infrastructure, stricter traffic enforcement, and continued vigilance—especially during festive travel.
