KKN Gurugram Desk | The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen many high-scoring thrillers and crushing defeats over its nearly two-decade-long history. But very few matches end with one team absolutely dominating the other by a wide margin. On May 1, 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) etched their name once again into the IPL record books by defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by a whopping 100 runs, marking the biggest win by runs in IPL 2025 so far.

In this article, we revisit the top five biggest wins in IPL history in terms of runs, with MI’s latest feat adding yet another historic chapter to their legacy.

Mumbai Indians beat Rajasthan Royals by 100 Runs – IPL 2025

  • Match Date: May 1, 2025

  • Venue: Jaipur

  • Result: MI won by 100 runs

  • MI Score: 217/2

  • RR Score: 117 all out (17 overs)

Mumbai Indians delivered a commanding performance at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Batting first, they posted a mammoth total of 217/2, led by explosive knocks from their top-order. Rajasthan Royals, in response, crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for just 117 runs in the 17th over.

This 100-run margin is not only the biggest win of the IPL 2025 season so far but also among the largest margins ever recorded in the history of the league.

Mumbai Indians defeat Delhi Daredevils by 146 Runs – IPL 2017

  • Match Date: May 6, 2017

  • Venue: Delhi

  • MI Score: 212/3

  • DD Score: 66 all out

  • Margin: 146 runs

This remains the biggest win in IPL history by run margin to date. Back in 2017, the Mumbai Indians outclassed the now-defunct Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) at their home ground. MI posted a huge score of 212, and then produced a stellar bowling effort to bundle out Delhi for a mere 66 runs.

This 146-run demolition is still unbeaten in IPL records and stands as a benchmark for total domination in the shortest format of the game.

RCB crush Gujarat Lions by 144 Runs – IPL 2016

  • Match Date: May 14, 2016

  • Venue: Bengaluru

  • RCB Score: 248/3

  • GL Score: 104 all out

  • Margin: 144 runs

In one of the most explosive batting displays in IPL history, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) set the Eden Gardens on fire by scoring 248/3, with contributions from Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Gujarat Lions never looked in the chase and collapsed for 104 runs, giving RCB a 144-run win, the second-largest victory by run margin in the league at that time.

Kohli, RCB’s captain, also scored a century in that match, further underlining the team’s total dominance.

 4. Kolkata Knight Riders beat RCB by 140 Runs – IPL 2008

  • Match Date: April 18, 2008

  • Venue: Bengaluru

  • KKR Score: 222/3

  • RCB Score: 82 all out

  • Margin: 140 runs

This game was part of the inaugural IPL season and is still remembered for Brendon McCullum’s legendary 158 off 73 balls*, setting the tone for what the IPL would become. Under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy, Kolkata Knight Riders posted 222, and RCB fell apart chasing the target, getting dismissed for 82 runs.

The 140-run victory helped KKR make an early mark in IPL folklore and remains their biggest win by margin to date.

 5. RCB defeat Kings XI Punjab by 138 Runs – IPL 2015

  • Match Date: May 6, 2015

  • Venue: Bengaluru

  • RCB Score: 226/3

  • KXIP Score: 88 all out

  • Margin: 138 runs

RCB yet again delivered a massive win in front of their home crowd. After scoring 226, thanks to another masterclass from Kohli and Gayle, they bowled out Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) for just 88 runs. The 138-run victory was at the time the second-biggest in IPL history and helped RCB boost their Net Run Rate significantly during a crucial phase of the tournament.

6. RCB beat Pune Warriors by 130 Runs – IPL 2013

  • Match Date: April 23, 2013

  • Venue: Bengaluru

  • RCB Score: 263/5

  • PWI Score: 133 all out

  • Margin: 130 runs

In yet another memorable match, RCB posted the then-highest IPL total of 263/5, courtesy of Chris Gayle’s 175 — the highest individual score in T20 history*. Pune Warriors had no answer and managed just 133 runs in response, giving RCB a thumping 130-run victory.
