KKN Gurugram Desk | The IPL 2025 season witnessed a significant turn of events as the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was abandoned due to persistent rain at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. This outcome has officially eliminated SRH from playoff contention, while DC remains in the hunt for a top-four finish.

Match Summary: SRH vs DC Ends in No Result

In Match 55 of the season, SRH won the toss and elected to field first. Their bowlers, led by captain Pat Cummins, delivered a stellar performance, reducing DC to 29/5 within the first 7.1 overs. Cummins claimed three wickets, dismissing Karun Nair, Faf du Plessis, and Abishek Porel, while Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel contributed with crucial breakthroughs. However, a resilient partnership between Tristan Stubbs (41*) and Ashutosh Sharma (41) helped DC recover to a total of 133/7 in 20 overs.

Unfortunately, heavy rain during the innings break led to the match being called off, with both teams sharing a point each.

Impact on Points Table

The abandonment has significant implications for both teams:

  • Delhi Capitals (DC): With the shared point, DC now has 13 points from 11 matches, placing them fifth on the points table. They remain in contention for a playoff spot, with three matches remaining.

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): SRH’s tally stands at 7 points from 11 matches, effectively eliminating them from playoff contention.

Delhi Capitals’ Road to Playoffs

DC’s remaining fixtures are against Punjab Kings (away), Gujarat Titans (home), and Mumbai Indians (away). Their qualification scenarios are as follows:Winning all three matches: DC would finish with 19 points, securing a spot in the top four and potentially the top two, depending on other results.

  • Winning two out of three: A total of 17 points could still see DC qualify, but net run rate (NRR) would become a crucial factor, especially if other teams have similar point totals.

  • Winning one or none: Finishing with 15 or fewer points would make DC’s qualification highly unlikely, as multiple teams are poised to surpass this tally.

Key Matches to Watch

Several upcoming matches will influence the playoff race:

  • Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians: Both teams are strong contenders, and the outcome will impact the top-four standings.

  • Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings: A must-win for DC to keep their playoff hopes alive.

  • Lucknow Super Giants’ Remaining Matches: Currently at 10 points, LSG needs to win their remaining games to stay in contention.

The rain-affected match between SRH and DC has intensified the playoff race in IPL 2025. While SRH’s journey ends here, DC must capitalize on their remaining fixtures to secure a playoff berth. Fans can expect a thrilling conclusion to the league stage as teams vie for the coveted top-four spots.
