KKN Gurugram Desk | The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Delhi-NCR, predicting significant rainfall starting from the final days of January and continuing into early February. The showers are expected to be triggered by two consecutive western disturbances that are set to affect the region. Along with Delhi, neighboring states like Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh are also likely to experience rainfall, causing potential disruptions in daily life.

Delhi Weather Forecast: Rain and Cold Wave Expected

As per the IMD’s latest weather update, Delhi is likely to experience rain from January 29 to February 1, with showers intensifying as February begins. These weather changes are attributed to the arrival of two western disturbances that will bring moisture-laden winds and trigger rainfall across northern India. The first disturbance is expected to impact the upper Himalayan region on January 29, while the second one will follow closely on February 1.

In addition to the rain, the western disturbances will also cause a dip in temperature in the hilly regions of North India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. These areas are likely to witness snowfall, adding to the chill in the air. As the disturbances move through the region, Delhi-NCR will experience cloudy skies and intermittent rain showers.

Weather Impact on Transportation

The weather conditions in Delhi are expected to affect transportation systems, as dense fog and rain could lead to delays and cancellations of flights and trains. Over the past few weeks, several flights and trains operating from Delhi have already been delayed or canceled due to the persistent fog, and this trend is likely to continue as the weather conditions worsen in the coming days.

Travelers in Delhi-NCR are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and check with airlines and train services for any schedule changes. It is also recommended to take extra precautions while traveling, as the reduced visibility caused by rain and fog may pose safety risks on the roads.

Rainfall Across North India

Apart from Delhi, the IMD has forecast rainfall in several northern states, including Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh, between January 30 and February 1. These regions are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall, which could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas. The showers will help alleviate the cold wave conditions that have gripped the region in recent days, but they could also bring temporary disruptions to daily activities.

The weather department has also predicted a further intensification of the cold wave in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Rajasthan. These states will experience below-average temperatures, with chilly winds and frost likely to affect rural and urban areas alike. However, after the western disturbances subside, temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the northern plains, bringing some relief from the biting cold.

Rainfall in Southern States

The weather system affecting northern India will also have an impact on the southern states. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh are all expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next few days. The rainfall is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, which could disrupt normal life in these regions. Authorities in these states have issued advisories for residents to stay indoors during the peak of the storms and take precautions against flooding in vulnerable areas.

Impact on Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh

In addition to the rain in Delhi-NCR and neighboring states, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh are expected to experience a fresh spell of rain and snow from January 29 to February 1. The weather in these regions will continue to be cold, with temperatures dipping further due to the snow and rainfall. The snowfall in higher altitudes is expected to disrupt road travel, especially in the mountainous areas, so tourists and locals are advised to check road conditions before setting out on long journeys.

Central India: Mild Temperature Changes Expected

While the weather in central India, including states like Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, is not expected to change drastically in the coming days, there will be a slight increase in temperatures. The IMD predicts that the temperature in these regions will rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during the upcoming week, bringing some relief from the chilly conditions. However, the weather is expected to remain generally dry, with no significant rainfall forecast for this part of the country.

As the end of January approaches, Delhi-NCR and surrounding regions are bracing for a wet start to February. The arrival of two western disturbances will bring rainfall, cooler temperatures, and the possibility of snow in the hilly areas. Travelers in Delhi and other northern states should stay alert for potential delays and disruptions due to the weather conditions. Meanwhile, the southern states and Jammu and Kashmir will also experience heavy rainfall, adding to the challenges posed by the ongoing cold wave.

With the weather constantly changing, it is crucial for residents and travelers to stay updated on the latest forecasts and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this unpredictable weather period. The IMD’s timely warnings and advisories are essential for minimizing the impact of these weather changes on daily life and ensuring public safety.
