Published by

KKN Gurugram Desk | With the UGC NET 2025 exams scheduled from June 25–29, it’s time for aspirants to focus solely on final revisio, rather than attempting new topics. This article provides a strategic plan to optimize your last days of preparation, improve time management, and build confidence for both Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Exam Overview: UGC NET 2025 Pattern & Schedule

Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), UGC NET is India’s primary exam for qualifying as an Assistant Professor or securing a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

  • Exam Dates: June 25–29, 2025

  • Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)

  • Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes), both papers in one sitting

  • Negative Marking: None

Paper 1 – 50 questions (100 marks) on Teaching & Research Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, ICT, Environmental Awareness, etc.
Paper 2 – 100 questions (200 marks) based on the candidate’s subject .

Qualifying Marks:

  • General category: Minimum 40% aggregate (120/300)

  • Reserved categories: Minimum 35% aggregate (~105/300) .

Phase 1: Final Revision Strategy (7–10 Days Left)

Review experts recommend dedicating the week before the exam exclusively to revision and mock tests, rather than covering new topics—essential to improve confidence and accuracy .

What You Should Do:

  • Consolidate notes for Paper 1’s units like Teaching Aptitude and Data Interpretation.

  • Create a topic-wise summary for Paper 2 concepts central to your subject.

  • Review past 5 years’ solved papers (2021–24) for pattern familiarity

  • Focus on common and repeated questions identified in sources for papers like English, Physics, History, etc. .

Phase 2: Time Management and Full-Length Mocks

Candidates must aim to complete all 150 questions in 180 minutes—quick thinking and pacing are key.

Suggested time allocation:

  • Paper 1 (50 Qs): ~45 minutes

  • Paper 2 (100 Qs): ~135 minutes

Consistent mock tests help familiarize you with timing and give insight into weak areas .

Mock Test Tips:

  1. Take 2–3 full mock tests in exam conditions

  2. After each test, analyze error trends and revise weak areas

  3. Track time per section and ensure completion within limits

  4. Use platforms like Testbook, Adda247 for quizzes and mock series .

Phase 3: Smart Revision of Core Materials

As per expert guidance:

  • Use reputed books:

    • Paper 1: Arihant’s UGC NET/SET General Paper ITrueman’s UGC NET/SET Paper I

    • Paper 2: standard reference books tailored to your subject

  • Reinforce understanding of key units via short notes and flashcards

  • Allocate breakfast time for revision of tough topics when the mind is fresh .

Phase 4: Health, Stress Management & Final Logistics

Mental fitness is vital:

  • Practice yoga and meditation to stay calm and focused

  • Sleep well—7–8 hours daily is critical

  • Eat nutritiously; avoid junk that leads to lethargy

  • Use stress relievers like breathing exercises during revision breaks

Final Checklist:

  • Download your city slip and admit card early from the NTA portal

  • Identify your exam center and plan travel logistics (transport, timing, COVID protocols)

  • Keep both physical and soft copies of admit card and ID

UGC NET Qualifying & JRF Cut-Offs

Understanding the scoring criteria helps set realistic targets:

  • General category: 120/300 (40%)

  • OBC/SC/ST/PwD: ~105/300 (35%)

  • Typically, cut-off percentile for JRF or Assistant Professor ranges between 50–60%, depending on subject and category .
