KKN Gurugram Desk | The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has come under intense scrutiny once again as its  Police and CAPF Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment process for 2024 remains incomplete even after 15 months. With over 7.34 lakh candidates having applied for the exam, the prolonged delay has led to widespread frustration and protest across digital platforms.

Candidates are now actively demanding transparency and action, accusing SSC of administrative failure and negligence in releasing the Paper 2 result, which remains pending despite multiple stages already completed.

SSC CPO 2024 Recruitment Timeline: From Application to Delay

The recruitment drive, formally titled SSC CPO (Central Police Organisation) 2024, was initiated to fill 4,187 posts of Sub-Inspector in:

  • Delhi Police

  • Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs)

  • Assistant Sub-Inspectors in CISF

Here’s how the recruitment unfolded:

Event Date
Application Window 8 to 28 March 2024
Paper 1 (CBT) Exam 27 to 29 June 2024
Paper 1 Answer Key Released 5 July 2024
Paper 1 Result Declared 2 September 2024
PET/PST Result Declared 3 February 2025
PET/PST Qualified Candidates Paper 2 8 March 2025
Revised PET/PST Result (Court Order) 22 April 2025
Paper 2 Result Still Pending (as of June 2025)

Applicants Furious: Thousands Take to Social Media Demanding Answers

Since April 2025, candidates have been awaiting the Paper 2 result, which is the final written stage before document verification and final selection. However, SSC has not issued any official update or timeline, which has led to:

  • Hashtags trending like #SSCPaper2Result and #SSC_CPO_Delay

  • Petitions being circulated across Twitter (X), Instagram, and Telegram groups

  • Calls for protests and RTI filings to pressurize SSC into action

One candidate wrote on X:

“We have given exams, passed PET/PST, waited for months. And still, no result. Why this silence, SSC?”

What Led to the Delay? Legal Hurdles and Court Petitions

A significant reason behind the delay is a set of 144 legal petitions filed by candidates dissatisfied with the PET/PST results.

The issues raised include:

  • Allegations of improper conduct during the physical tests

  • Discrepancies in qualifying standards across centers

  • Lack of clarity in results publication

Following the legal intervention, the Delhi High Court directed SSC to reissue the PET/PST result, which was subsequently published on 22 April 2025. Despite that, SSC has not resumed the selection process, leaving over 400,000 shortlisted candidates in limbo.

Vacancies and Response: High Competition, Little Clarity

The SSC CPO 2024 notification saw an overwhelming response, with 7,34,157 applications received for 4,187 vacancies. The distribution of posts was across:

  • Sub-Inspector (SI) in Delhi Police

  • Sub-Inspector (SI) in BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB (CAPFs)

  • Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in CISF

This is one of SSC’s most sought-after exams for graduates aspiring to join central paramilitary forces and Delhi Police.

Yet, even after successfully completing written exams and physical tests, many candidates now fear that the delay may jeopardize their career timelines.

Expert Views: Delay Could Affect SSC’s Credibility

Retired officer and employment activist R.K. Singh stated in an interview:

“Such prolonged delays without explanation undermine the trust of youth in government jobs. This isn’t just administrative inefficiency—it reflects poor coordination between SSC and the ministries concerned.”

He added that timely results are crucial, especially for aspirants who have passed multiple levels and are preparing for medical tests and document verification.

Comparative Analysis: How Does SSC CPO 2024 Stack Up?

Compared to other SSC and UPSC recruitment timelines, the CPO 2024 process appears exceptionally delayed.

Exam Total Timeline Remarks
SSC CHSL 2024 ~11 months Results declared on time
SSC CGL 2023 ~9.5 months Conducted in multiple phases smoothly
SSC CPO 2024 15+ months and ongoing Still incomplete, causing unrest

The contrast raises serious questions about SSC’s resource planning and prioritization, especially since CPO includes law enforcement positions, where delays can affect security and force strength.

Impact on Candidates: Psychological and Career Stress

Candidates who cleared Paper 1 and PET/PST are now caught in a prolonged waiting phase, leading to:

  • Mental stress and uncertainty

  • Inability to focus on other exams

  • Financial pressure for those unemployed

  • Age-bar concerns for those nearing eligibility limits

Many candidates have also missed opportunities in other defense or civil recruitment due to lack of clarity on SSC CPO timelines.

SSC’s Silence: No Official Update Since April

Since the revised PET/PST result was published on 22 April 2025, SSC has not provided any notice on:

  • Paper 2 result date

  • Final merit list schedule

  • Document verification process

  • Appointment timeline

This lack of communication has further fueled candidate outrage.

Ongoing SSC CGL 2025 Recruitment: Contrasting Progress

Interestingly, while CPO remains stalled, SSC has launched the CGL 2025 recruitment process without delay. The commission has announced:

  • 14,582 vacancies

  • Application window open until 4 July 2025

  • Last date for fee payment: 5 July 2025

This contrast has not gone unnoticed by candidates, who question why new exams are being conducted when older ones remain unresolved.

Candidate Demands: Transparency and Deadline Commitment

Candidates have now formally articulated a set of demands:

  1. Immediate declaration of Paper 2 result

  2. Notification on next steps (DV/Medical)

  3. Regular communication through SSC portal

  4. Accountability measures for delays

Several aspirant groups are planning to submit memorandums to MPs and authorities, urging them to raise the issue in Parliament.

Legal Next Steps: Petitioners Await Further Hearing

The 144 petitioners are still waiting for their cases to be finalized in court. Some legal experts believe the may now move towards:

  • Final hearing in July 2025

  • Possible instructions to SSC for complete publication of result

  • Directions to maintain fairness for all categories of candidates

Until the matter is closed, SSC may cite subjudice status as a reason for withholding the result.

With lakhs of students watching, SSC’s handling of the CPO 2024 recruitment could either restore confidence or severely damage its credibility. The delay isn’t just a procedural hiccup—it represents the dreams and hard work of young Indians preparing to serve in law enforcement.

It’s now up to the commission to provide clarity, transparency, and timely action.
