KKN Gurugram Desk | Veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has broken his silence following the recent Pahalgam terror attack and has spoken out in support of India’s military operation — Operation Sindoor. He also paid tribute to India’s soldiers, honored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, and shared a timeless piece of poetry penned by his father, the legendary Harivansh Rai Bachchan, written during the 1965 Indo-Pak war.

This powerful poem, rooted in the epic Ramcharitmanas, not only evokes patriotic sentiments but also emphasizes the true nature of courage — a quality that is performed, not proclaimed.

A Poet’s Vision That Echoes Across Decades

In a heartfelt tweet, Amitabh Bachchan quoted a line from his father’s celebrated poem:

“Soor samar karni karahin, kahi na janavahin aap”
(“Valiant warriors act in battle, not speak of their bravery.”)

This line, taken from Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas, specifically from the Laxman-Parashuram dialogue, underlines the essence of heroism — that true warriors show valor through their deeds, not empty words.

Bachchan added that cowards boast of bravery only when the enemy is in sight, whereas the truly courageous remain humble and composed — letting their actions define them.

Remembering the 1965 War and Operation Sindoor

The legendary actor revealed that this very poem, written by his father in the context of the 1965 India-Pakistan war, earned Harivansh Rai Bachchan the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 1968. The timing of Amitabh’s post is significant, as India currently navigates heightened border tensions and counter-terror operations under Operation Sindoor — a strategic military effort to neutralize threats across the Line of Control (LoC).

“My father wrote these words nearly 60 years ago during the 1965 war. Today, they are more relevant than ever. A poet’s vision, still breathing in today’s reality,” Bachchan wrote.

Poetry Meets Patriotism: ‘Soor Samar Karni Karahin’

Amitabh further shared another stanza from the poem titled ‘Soor Samar Karni Karahin’, reiterating that valor lies in silent strength and fearless action, not in hollow declarations.

Excerpt from the poem:

“Veer woh hain jo apni veerta yudh mein dikhate hain, na ki ve apni hi prashansa mein doob jaate hain. Jo shatru ko dekh kar hi apni taqat ka shor machate hain, ve kshatriya nahi, kair hote hain.”

Translated:

“True warriors prove their strength on the battlefield, not by words. Those who beat the drum of courage only in front of the enemy are not brave — they are cowards.”

This poem continues to inspire soldiers, civilians, and youth alike — reminding the nation that bravery must be lived, not boasted.

🇮🇳 Operation Sindoor: Modern-Day Valor Meets Ancient Wisdom

In his tweet, Bachchan linked the values of the 1965 war with India’s current military stand, especially after the Pahalgam incident that shocked the nation. He lauded the swift and decisive response by the Indian armed forces under Operation Sindoor, which continues to dismantle terror networks in Kashmir and safeguard India’s sovereignty.

What is Operation Sindoor?

Launched in 2024, Operation Sindoor is an umbrella term for a series of counter-terrorism and infiltration-prevention actions by Indian forces, especially along Jammu and Kashmir. The name “Sindoor” (vermillion) symbolizes sacrifice, honor, and unwavering commitment to the nation — echoing the very values of Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s poem.

Amitabh Bachchan: The Artist, the Patriot, the Son

While Amitabh Bachchan is celebrated for his five-decade-long cinematic legacy, he has also maintained a deep connection with India’s socio-political and cultural realities. Known for his powerful voice and poetry recitations, he has often quoted his father’s work to inspire audiences during national crises or commemorative occasions.

This latest tribute bridges past and present, linking the literary wisdom of the 1960s with the political and military challenges of today.

Harivansh Rai Bachchan: The Man Behind the Words

A Padma Bhushan awardee and one of India’s most revered poets, Harivansh Rai Bachchan is best known for his iconic work ‘Madhushala’, but his contributions to patriotic and philosophical poetry during India’s wars are lesser known.

  • Award: Sahitya Akademi, 1968 (for the war-time poem shared by Amitabh)

  • Themes: Courage, dharma, nationalism, self-reflection

  • Legacy: Continues to influence Indian literature and political thought

His words during the 1965 war helped galvanize public morale at a time when India faced significant challenges on the western front. Today, they serve as a spiritual backbone to national resilience.

 The Message Behind the Words

The key message of the poem and Amitabh’s post is this:

“National strength lies not in slogans or threats, but in calm, courageous action.”

At a time when global tensions are high and internal security is critical, this reminder from the past serves as a guiding light for the present.

As India continues to defend its borders and values, voices like Amitabh Bachchan help bridge the emotional and cultural connection between generations. His tribute is not merely a reflection of nostalgia, but a clarion call for purposeful action, resilience, and dignity — the very pillars of Indian strength.

His father’s lines remain timeless, etched in both history and the soul of the nation.
