KKN Gurugram Desk | The deaths of 17 people from three families in Baddal village, Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, have left the administration and public deeply concerned. Since December, these tragic incidents have prompted the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the Jammu and Kashmir Police to uncover the cause behind the fatalities. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the affected village to meet the grieving families and ass ured a thorough investigation.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated:
“The civil administration and health department are actively addressing the matter. Additionally, a central team has been deployed, working diligently to uncover the reasons behind this unfortunate loss of life.”
He reassured the public that the investigation’s findings would be shared transparently, and appropriate measures would be implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.
According to The Indian Express, an initial probe conducted by the central team found pesticide residues in a nearby baoli (water reservoir). However, no direct connection has been established between the contaminated water and the deaths, and the cause of the contamination remains unknown.
Omar Abdullah, accompanied by Minister Javed Rana and MLA Javed Iqbal Choudhary, visited Baddal village to console the grieving families. He emphasized:
“Our priority is to ensure that such incidents do not recur. A detailed investigation is underway to determine the root cause of this tragedy.”
During the visit, MLA Javed Iqbal Choudhary submitted a proposal for compensation for the affected families. The Chief Minister assured them of all possible support, both financial and emotional, to help them through this difficult time.
Omar Abdullah urged political parties and leaders to avoid interfering in the investigation. He said:
“I appeal to everyone to allow the concerned agencies to perform their duties. Identifying the reasons behind these tragic deaths is our utmost priority, and we are committed to taking every necessary step to prevent such occurrences in the future.”
The incident has triggered widespread concern across the region. Citizens and social organizations have demanded a thorough investigation and immediate measures to ensure the availability of safe drinking water in rural areas.
