Salman Khan’s much-hyped action entertainer Sikandar, co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, is now available on Netflix after an underwhelming performance in theatres. Released on Eid, the film was expected to be Salman’s big comeback to massy cinema, featuring high-octane action and a new on-screen pairing. However, Sikandar failed to meet expectations both critically and commercially.
Despite the Eid release buzz and a powerful promotional campaign, including a stylish OTT announcement promo on May 25, the digital premiere of Sikandar has also failed to ignite excitement among audiences. While Salman’s fans initially expressed hope, social media reactions reveal widespread disappointment with the film’s content.
Twitter Reactions Brand Sikandar as Salman Khan’s Weakest Film
Following its Netflix release, netizens took to Twitter to express their reviews of Sikandar, and most of them were far from kind. Viewers criticized everything from the story and direction to the performances and background score. Many fans even went so far as to say that the OTT announcement video was more engaging than the actual film.
One viewer tweeted, “#Sikandar is like a movie where Salman Khan acted without any interest. Everyone is bad in one way or another.” Another harsh review stated, “Even being a Salman Khan fan… I must admit #SikandarOnNetflix is the worst film of Salman. Everything is off — acting, direction, action, and the BGM is so inconsistent and poorly synced. Total mess.”
What Went Wrong with Sikandar?
Sikandar was envisioned as a larger-than-life action drama that would bank on Salman Khan’s star power and Rashmika Mandanna’s popularity to draw audiences. Unfortunately, the film struggled with a weak screenplay, lackluster dialogues, and predictable plot twists.
Despite having a high production value, action sequences failed to leave a lasting impact. Critics and viewers alike noted that Salman appeared ‘disinterested’ in several scenes, which further dampened the overall appeal of the film.
Rashmika Mandanna’s Role and Performance Also Under Scrutiny
Although the casting of Rashmika Mandanna alongside Salman Khan had generated early excitement, her role was reportedly underdeveloped. Many viewers felt she was reduced to a mere supporting act, failing to make any strong impression amid the chaos of weak scripting and poor direction.
A Missed Opportunity for Eid Blockbuster
Given its festive release and massive marketing, Sikandar was expected to break records. However, it has now joined the list of underperforming Bollywood films of 2024. Analysts believe that while OTT can offer a second life to many movies, it can’t salvage a fundamentally flawed product.
Sikandar Misses the Mark on All Fronts
With a lukewarm response from both the box office and OTT viewers, Sikandar stands as a disappointing chapter in Salman Khan’s filmography. Despite the initial hype, the film’s poor narrative, uninspired performances, and inconsistent technical elements contributed to its downfall.
Audiences expected an explosive Salman comeback, but what they received was a lackluster action flick that failed to deliver on every cinematic front.
