The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the exam date for the CSIR UGC NET June 2025, confirming that the national-level test will be conducted on July 28, 2025, in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across India. This year’s examination will be held on a single day for all five science subjects, streamlining the process for thousands of candidates nationwide.
The CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) is an important examination for aspirants aiming for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor positions, and admission to PhD programs in universities and research institutions across India.
According to the latest notification released by NTA, the CSIR UGC NET June 2025 exam will take place on Sunday, July 28, 2025, and will be conducted in CBT (online) format. This decision comes after multiple requests from candidates highlighting a clash with the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET 2024), scheduled on July 26 and 27. As a result, the CSIR NET exam has now been consolidated into a single day to avoid conflicts.
Registered candidates will be able to download their exam city intimation slips from the official website, csirnet.nta.ac.in, 8 to 10 days before the exam, which places the expected release between July 18 and July 20, 2025.
Note: The advance city intimation slip is not the admit card. It is only to inform candidates of the city where their exam center will be located. The admit card will be released separately, likely 2–3 days before the examination.
The CSIR NET will be conducted for the following five science subjects, all scheduled on the same day:
Mathematical Sciences
Chemical Sciences
Life Sciences
Physical Sciences
Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences
This unified schedule is a first in recent years, reflecting NTA’s efforts to streamline the testing process and minimize logistical issues.
The UGC-CSIR NET exam will consist of a single paper of 200 marks, divided into three sections:
Focuses on logical reasoning, numerical ability, and graph/data interpretation.
Common to all subjects.
Carries 30 marks.
Moderate difficulty level.
Tests core concepts of the chosen subject.
Weightage: 70 marks.
Advanced-level questions based on research and application.
Focused on testing scientific thinking and problem-solving skills.
Weightage: 100 marks.
Each correct answer is awarded full marks.
Negative marking applies: typically, 25% of the marks per incorrect answer.
The total duration of the exam is 3 hours (180 minutes).
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in collaboration with UGC conducts this exam to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for:
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
Lectureship/Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges
Admission to PhD programs in science and related disciplines
The exam is particularly important for postgraduate students in science looking to build a career in academia or scientific research.
