High-Speed Collision on Ekara ROB: Two Lives Lost Instantly
The first accident occurred early Saturday morning at the Ekara Road Over Bridge (ROB), located under the jurisdiction of the Kazhipur police station. A high-speed collision between a car and a heavy truck resulted in an immediate fatality for both the car driver, identified as Vishal Kumar (26), and a motorcycle rider, Kaushal Kishore (48), who was an advocate.
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary reports, the car was heading from Hajipur toward Muzaffarpur, while the truck was reportedly approaching from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that the car lost control, overturned, and flipped onto the opposite lane, directly hitting Kaushal Kishore, who was riding toward Hajipur.
Victims Identified: Advocate Was En Route to Cast His Vote
Kaushal Kishore, the 48-year-old lawyer from Hajipur, was en route to vote in the Bihar Bar Association elections at the Hajipur Civil Court. Known in legal circles for his integrity and service, his untimely death has shocked the local legal fraternity.
Vishal Kumar, the car driver, was reportedly alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and their bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital, Hajipur, for post-mortem.
Second Tragedy in Sahdullahpur: Tanker Crushes Youth on Bike
In another heart-wrenching incident later the same day, a young man identified as Manjeet Kumar, who was traveling on his motorcycle in Sahdullahpur village, was crushed to death by a speeding tanker.
Manjeet, a resident of the area, was reportedly on his way to purchase items for his brother’s wedding, scheduled to take place later this month. Tragically, he never made it to the market.
Eyewitnesses stated that the tanker was moving at an uncontrollable speed and attempted to overtake another vehicle when it lost balance and collided with Manjeet’s motorcycle from behind.
Emergency Response and Local Reactions
Police teams arrived promptly at both accident scenes. All three deceased were taken to Sadar Hospital for medico-legal formalities, and investigations into both incidents have been initiated.
Vaishali MLA Siddharth Patel visited the Sadar Hospital to meet the grieving family of advocate Kaushal Kishore. Offering condolences, he called for a comprehensive review of road safety protocols in the district and urged authorities to fast-track compensation for the families of the deceased.
“We are witnessing too many preventable deaths due to reckless driving and lack of enforcement. This is not just a personal tragedy—it is a public safety issue,” Patel said.
Legal and Administrative Action Underway
Following the incidents, both vehicles—the truck involved in the first collision and the tanker in the second—have been seized by local police. The drivers involved in each case have reportedly fled the scene, and police are working with transport authorities to track the vehicle owners and arrest the absconding individuals.
A case has been registered under sections of culpable homicide and negligent driving. Officials confirmed that CCTV footage from nearby surveillance cameras is being reviewed to establish the exact sequence of events.
Grief and Protest in the Legal Community
The sudden demise of advocate Kaushal Kishore has sent shockwaves through the legal community in Hajipur and nearby districts. Bar members observed a brief mourning session and demanded immediate justice.
The Hajipur Bar Association has submitted a memorandum to district authorities, calling for:
-
Installation of speed monitors on Ekara ROB
-
Deployment of traffic personnel at high-risk junctions
-
Life insurance cover for lawyers commuting during official duties
Recurring Pattern: Ekara ROB Tagged a Danger Zone
Ekara ROB has long been identified as a high-risk traffic zone, with multiple fatal accidents occurring in the past three years alone. The bridge lacks:
-
Speed limit enforcement
-
Proper signages
-
Dedicated motorcycle lanes
-
Continuous lighting during nighttime
Locals allege that repeated appeals to the Public Works Department (PWD) have gone unheard, and the current condition of the overpass is an “accident waiting to happen.”
The Broader Picture: Bihar’s Road Fatalities on the Rise
According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, Bihar has witnessed a year-on-year increase in road accidents, with speeding, overtaking, and poor vehicle maintenance among the top causes.
In 2024 alone:
-
Over 6,700 fatalities were reported on Bihar roads
-
25% of victims were pedestrians or two-wheeler riders
-
Nearly 40% of accidents occurred due to violations of basic traffic laws
Preventive Measures Needed: Experts Speak
Transport experts and road safety NGOs have raised urgent concerns, calling for:
-
Speed cameras and sensor-based alarms on highways
-
Public awareness campaigns targeting rural two-wheeler riders
-
Mandatory road safety audits for bridges and bypasses
-
Incentivized black spot elimination programs
Dr. Ravi Narayan, a road safety researcher, stated:
“Bridges like Ekara ROB need infrastructure intervention. But more importantly, drivers need behavioral change. Enforcement is not enough—we need education.”
Community Mourning and Calls for Reform
As funeral arrangements were made for the deceased, communities in Vaishali, Sahdullahpur, and Hajipur gathered in silent marches to protest the worsening state of road safety.
Placards read:
-
“Justice for Manjeet and Kaushal”
-
“Safer Roads, Not Deadly Routes”
-
“No More Negligence—We Need Action”
The double tragedy in Vaishali is more than an isolated incident—it is a clear warning that urgent action is needed to address road safety in Bihar. As grieving families mourn their loved ones, the broader community watches with hope that these incidents become turning points in policy, enforcement, and infrastructure development.
