The residents of Bihar may finally get relief from the relentless humid heat. According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, a low-pressure system is becoming active over the northern Bay of Bengal. This development could significantly impact the weather across several parts of the state, including Patna, within the next 24 hours. The forecast suggests a shift in weather conditions, with chances of light rainfall at some locations.

Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued in 10 Districts
The influence of the strengthening low-pressure system is expected to extend mainly over Odisha and Jharkhand, where heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds is anticipated in the coming days. As this system progresses, Bihar will also start witnessing noticeable changes in weather, especially in the central and southern regions. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for ten districts in Bihar. These include Begusarai, Samastipur, Khagaria, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Banka, and Jamui. These areas could see intense rainfall at one or two locations over the next day or two.
Expect Temperature Drop Across the State
The Patna Meteorological Centre has predicted a fall in maximum temperatures by three to five degrees Celsius within the next 48 hours. This will likely provide significant relief to residents who have been enduring oppressive heat and high humidity. Director of the Patna Meteorological Centre, Ashish Kumar, confirmed that the monsoon’s active phase will now begin to show its effects across the state.
The moisture-laden easterly winds, known as Purwa, are already starting to influence the weather, especially in and around Patna. These winds are bringing with them a slight drop in humidity and heat levels, helping ease the discomfort residents have been experiencing.
Monsoon Conditions Uneven Across the State
According to weather officials, the monsoon has not behaved uniformly this year across Bihar. While southern parts of the state have received a decent amount of rainfall, the northern regions have experienced a significant shortfall. Currently, the state has recorded 44 percent less rainfall than the normal average for this period. Bihar has received only 241.9 mm of rainfall so far, compared to the normal seasonal average of 432.2 mm.
This uneven distribution has raised concerns, particularly for agricultural activities in the northern districts, where farmers have been relying heavily on monsoon showers for paddy transplantation and other crop-related tasks.
Rainfall Data from Key Districts Over the Last 24 Hours
In the last 24 hours, several areas in southern Bihar have experienced moderate to heavy rainfall. The highest recorded rainfall was in Dumaria, Gaya, where 85.4 mm of rain was observed. In Dhanrua, located in Patna district, 50.4 mm of rainfall was recorded. Other districts also received varying amounts of rain, indicating the beginning of a more active monsoon phase.
Jehanabad recorded 66.2 mm, Obra in Aurangabad received 52.2 mm, and Barachatti in Gaya registered 43.6 mm of rain. Meanwhile, areas in and around Patna like Fatuha, Daniyawan, and Dhanrua received between 35.4 mm to 50.4 mm of rain. Other areas like Kurtha in Arwal and Rafiganj in Aurangabad also recorded notable precipitation. Even districts in northern Bihar, such as Motihari, Buxar, Vaishali, and Siwan, saw light to moderate rain, ranging from 14.6 mm to 27.1 mm.
Temperature Trends in Major Cities
Despite the rainfall, temperatures remained high across most parts of the state during the day. In Patna, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37.0 degrees Celsius, while the minimum stood at 29.3 degrees Celsius. Gaya experienced a maximum temperature of 34.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.4 degrees Celsius.
Bhagalpur recorded a maximum of 34.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 29.6 degrees Celsius. Muzaffarpur, another key city in North Bihar, registered a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 30.5 degrees Celsius. The continued high temperatures in these cities have kept the discomfort level high, although evening cloud cover and wind changes are starting to offer some respite.
Evening Showers Bring Temporary Relief from Humidity
Throughout the day, people in Patna and surrounding areas struggled with intense sunlight and moisture-laden winds. The combination of high heat and humidity led to significant discomfort. However, by evening, changes in weather became noticeable. Dark clouds began covering the skies, and wind speed increased, giving people a much-needed break from the sweltering conditions.
Although the rain in many areas was light to moderate, its timing helped reduce the impact of the heat. The evening breeze and cloud cover allowed for some cooling, making it easier for residents to go about their routines. Meteorologists believe this is just the beginning, and more consistent rainfall is likely over the next few days.
Four to Five Days of Continuous Rainfall Expected
The Patna Meteorological Centre expects a sustained spell of rainfall over the next four to five days. The showers will likely bring consistent relief across most parts of Bihar. These rains are crucial not only for cooling down the region but also for supporting agriculture, particularly in rain-dependent areas.
Weather experts believe that if the low-pressure system continues to strengthen, Bihar could experience widespread rain, which would help narrow the current rainfall deficit. However, the department also advises caution in districts where heavy rainfall is expected, as localized flooding and waterlogging are possible.
Why Monsoon Delay Matters for Bihar
Bihar is largely dependent on the monsoon season for agricultural productivity. A delay or deficiency in rainfall can severely impact the sowing of major crops like paddy. Northern districts, which are yet to receive adequate rain, are already experiencing delays in agricultural activities. If the current weather system results in good rainfall over the coming days, it could help revive the season for many farmers.
The government and agricultural departments are monitoring the situation closely. Authorities may issue advisories for farmers based on the rainfall data to guide them in resuming sowing and transplanting activities.
As Bihar transitions into a more active monsoon phase, residents can expect a change in the weather over the coming days. The current system forming over the Bay of Bengal is expected to influence not just Bihar but also neighboring states like Odisha and Jharkhand. This could lead to a broader regional shift in weather patterns.
The state has already started seeing early signs of this change with cloud formations, evening rain showers, and dropping temperatures. With forecasts suggesting regular rainfall over the next few days, the discomfort caused by persistent humidity may finally come to an end.
Residents are advised to stay updated with local weather alerts, especially in districts where heavy rain has been forecast. While the rain brings relief from the heat, it also increases the risk of waterlogging and disruptions in daily life, especially in urban areas like Patna.
As the monsoon becomes more active, Bihar looks forward to much-needed rain and relief from the oppressive heat that has lingered over the region for weeks.
