Political Storm Heats Up Ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections

As the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 approach, the political landscape in the state has become increasingly intense. With only two to three months remaining before the polls, both the ruling party and the opposition have already started their campaigns, using sharp words and accusations against each other. The recent political developments saw Prime Minister Narendra Modi making a one-day visit to Motihari, where he unveiled schemes worth over 7,200 crores for the state. In response, the opposition has criticized the announcement, with Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, launching a satirical song about the promises made by the BJP.

PM Modi’s Visit and Announcement of Projects

On July 18, 2025, during his one-day visit to Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large crowd at Gandhi Maidan in Motihari. He announced several key initiatives and laid the foundation for projects worth over 7,200 crores. These projects span across various sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and rural development. Modi’s visit was seen as a significant political move ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections, where his party, the BJP, is aiming to secure a strong foothold in the state.

The Prime Minister’s announcements were followed by a political rally in which he emphasized the achievements of the current government, showcasing the progress made under the BJP-led NDA in the state. The projects are expected to have a long-term impact on the state’s economy and infrastructure, benefiting millions of citizens in Bihar.

Tejashwi Yadav’s Response with a Satirical Song

In a bid to highlight what he perceives as the BJP’s broken promises, Tejashwi Yadav has launched a satirical song targeting the BJP and Prime Minister Modi. The song was released on July 19, 2025, and immediately gained traction on social media platforms, especially X (formerly Twitter), where Yadav shared the video with a caption that read: “Modi ji O Modi ji, Adarniya Modi ji, Biharwasiyon ne aapke jhooth aur jumlon se tang aakar aapke liye yeh gaana samarpit kiya hai” (Prime Minister Modi, the people of Bihar have dedicated this song to you due to their frustration with your lies and false promises).

In the song, Tejashwi Yadav mocked the BJP’s promises, including the reopening of closed sugar mills and criticized the lack of tangible progress on various fronts. The song also highlighted the alleged “empty promises” made by Modi during his previous visits to Bihar, especially pointing out that Modi only visits the state during election times.

Lalu Yadav Takes a Dig at PM Modi

Lalu Prasad Yadav, the RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) leader and father of Tejashwi Yadav, also joined the chorus of criticism aimed at the Prime Minister. Lalu took to social media, specifically X, to mock Modi’s visit and the ongoing political promises. He sarcastically asked: “Jumla sunane Bihar, kya matdata soochi mein hara-pherii ke baad aaoge? Bihari, hara-pherii to hone denge nahi?” (Coming to Bihar to deliver empty promises, will you visit after manipulating the voter list? Bihar will not let any such fraud happen.)

Lalu’s comments are reflective of the long-standing tension between the RJD and BJP, with both sides frequently clashing over issues like governance, corruption, and policy failures.

PM Modi Responds to Opposition Criticism

Despite the opposition’s attacks, PM Modi remains defiant. During his rally in Motihari, he launched a strong rebuttal against the RJD and other opposition parties. Modi accused the opposition of being disconnected from the people’s concerns and emphasized that the BJP-led government had delivered on its promises, focusing on the development of the state.

Modi took aim at the opposition’s failure to deliver on key promises, accusing them of using empty slogans while the NDA government had been working hard to improve the lives of the people of Bihar. He also pointed out that the BJP’s focus on infrastructure and economic growth would lead to lasting changes for the state’s future.

Manoj Jha Critiques PM Modi’s Bihar Visit

The RJD’s national spokesperson, Manoj Jha, also dismissed PM Modi’s visit as a “publicity stunt”. He termed the BJP’s announcements of 7,200 crore rupees worth of projects as nothing more than an attempt to distract voters. Jha accused the Prime Minister of misleading the people of Bihar with promises that were unlikely to be fulfilled.

According to Jha, Modi’s focus on announcing grand schemes was a tactic to cover up the failures of the BJP-led NDA government. He further claimed that the ruling party had failed to address the core issues facing the people of Bihar, such as unemployment, poverty, and lawlessness.

Bihar Elections and Political Dynamics

The Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 are just a few months away, and the political climate is heating up. The BJP, which is currently in power at the Centre, is aiming to make significant inroads into Bihar, a state traditionally dominated by the RJD and other regional parties. The RJD, led by Tejashwi Yadav and Lalu Yadav, has been the chief opposition party in Bihar and has consistently accused the ruling BJP of being out of touch with the state’s problems.

In recent years, Bihar has faced several challenges, including a deteriorating law-and-order situation, economic difficulties, and infrastructure gaps. The BJP’s strategy in the run-up to the elections seems to be focusing on development and the promises of progress, while the RJD is attempting to position itself as the champion of the common people, criticizing the BJP’s governance record.

Election Campaigning and Public Sentiment

As both the ruling party and the opposition gear up for the upcoming election, election campaigns have already begun in full force. The rhetoric from both sides has grown more aggressive, with political leaders making personal attacks and accusing each other of misleading the public. The battle for Bihar’s voters is expected to intensify over the next few months, with promises of infrastructure development, job creation, and improvements to the education and healthcare systems taking center stage.

While the BJP continues to highlight its success in national governance and promises of large-scale development projects, the RJD is focusing on local issues that resonate with the Bihar electorate. The state has a large rural population, and issues like farmers’ welfare, unemployment, and access to basic services will play a crucial role in determining voter preferences.

The Bihar Assembly Elections in 2025 are shaping up to be a high-stakes contest between the BJP and the RJD-led opposition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of development projects worth over 7,200 crores is a clear signal that the ruling party is trying to consolidate support ahead of the elections. However, the opposition, led by Tejashwi Yadav and Lalu Yadav, is not backing down, using satire and sharp criticism to challenge the BJP’s claims.

With both sides ramping up their campaigns, the people of Bihar can expect a fierce and heated political battle in the coming months. The state’s voters will ultimately decide whether the BJP’s promises of development will sway them or whether the RJD’s focus on local issues and governance will win the day.
