Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary, confirmed that the visit will strengthen Bihar’s infrastructure and has strategic political importance. He emphasized that PM Modi’s continued visits have played a pivotal role in Bihar’s development, making it one of the leading states in terms of progress. Chaudhary stated that PM Modi has a special connection with Bihar, and his development-focused initiatives have given a new momentum to the state.
A Historical Public Gathering at Gandhi Maidan
On 18th July, PM Modi will address a massive public gathering at the iconic Gandhi Maidan in Motihari. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is also expected to attend the event. This marks another instance of the alliance between PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar, who together have brought Bihar to new heights of development. The public rally will be a grand occasion to highlight the benefits of the newly launched projects.
Preparations for the event have already begun, with local leaders, including JD(U) National Vice President Sanjay Kumar Jha and MP Radhmohan Singh, reviewing the arrangements. The officials are making sure that the event will be a major success.
Details of the Rs 7217 Crore Development Projects
PM Modi’s visit will witness the inauguration and foundation laying of projects across multiple sectors, including railways, roads, information technology, rural development, and livestock. A significant portion of the funding, about Rs 5398 crore, will be directed toward railway projects. These will include the doubling of the Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj rail section, the automatic signaling and traction system upgrade in the Bhathni-Chhapra rural rail section, and infrastructure development for the maintenance of Vande Bharat trains at Patliputra.
In the road and transportation sector, Rs 1173 crore will be invested in various projects. These include the foundation laying of a four-lane road from Asni to Bampali on NH-319, costing Rs 138 crore, the inauguration of a four-lane road from Pararia to Mohania in Kaimur, costing Rs 828 crore, and the inauguration of a two-lane road from Sarwan-Chakai on NH-333C, with a project cost of Rs 110 crore.
Significant Support for Housing and Self-Help Groups
PM Modi’s visit will also address social welfare aspects. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for rural areas, Rs 162 crore will be transferred to the bank accounts of 40,000 beneficiaries. Additionally, 12,000 beneficiaries will be handed over keys to their newly constructed homes. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the living standards of rural households.
In line with the government’s vision for rural economic empowerment, Rs 400 crore will be allocated to provide financial support to 61,500 self-help groups, helping boost rural livelihoods and creating economic opportunities.
Technology and Infrastructure Growth
In the field of information technology, Rs 63 crore will be dedicated to strengthening Bihar’s digital infrastructure. These initiatives are intended to enhance the state’s connectivity, access to technology, and promote digital literacy among the population. As part of this development, various projects will be undertaken to modernize the state’s IT landscape, making it more competitive in the national market.
Political Significance of PM Modi’s Visit
This visit is not just about development projects. With Bihar’s assembly elections around the corner, PM Modi’s presence and the announcement of such a large-scale developmental package are politically significant. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies within the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) see this as an opportunity to strengthen their position in the Champaran region, which has 21 assembly constituencies. In the 2020 elections, the NDA won 17 of these seats.
Minister Nitin Navin from the Bihar government has claimed that after PM Modi’s visit, there could be divisions within the Grand Alliance, potentially strengthening the NDA further. This visit, therefore, serves as a strategic political move for the NDA in Bihar.
