 Why This Recruitment Matters

The Excise, Prohibition and Registration Department of Bihar is currently facing a staff shortage, with over 3,500 vacant posts out of the total 6,707 sanctioned positions. This mass recruitment drive is a strategic move by the Bihar government to strengthen law enforcement, especially in areas related to alcohol prohibition enforcement, and improve administrative efficiency.

 Vacancy & Promotion Statistics

The 2180 posts are being filled through direct recruitment, while 1245 positions will be completed via internal promotions. Here’s a glimpse at the broader picture:

  • Total Sanctioned Posts: 6,707

  • Total Vacant Posts: 3,526

    • Of these, 439 high-grade clerk positions will be filled through promotion, as only 51 are currently employed.

    • Out of 900 lower division clerk posts, only 329 are occupied; 135 will be filled through promotions, and 436 via fresh recruitment.

For Prohibition Sub-Inspectors (SI), ASIs, and Inspectors, promotions will occur only after the current recruitment cycle is completed.

Which Commissions Will Conduct the Recruitment?

The recruitment will be carried out by the following commissions, each responsible for specific roles:

  • CSBC will handle recruitment for Prohibition Constables (1603 posts).

  • BSSC will oversee recruitment for Lower Division Clerks and Grade-III Stenographers.

  • BPSSC will conduct exams for Sub-Inspectors in Prohibition Units.

  • BPSC will manage recruitment for Assistant Registrars and Joint Assistant Registrars.

While the Bihar government has sent requisitions to the respective commissions, official notification releases are expected soon, most likely by late June or early July 2025. This will be followed by:

  • Application process (online)

  • Written examination and skill tests

  • Document verification

  • Final appointment orders

Job aspirants are advised to keep checking the official websites of CSBC, BSSC, and other commissions regularly.
