KKN Gurugram Desk | Amid speculation over his future political role, Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvlobsan) president and central minister Chirag Paswan issued a strong statement regarding the political landscape in Bihar ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Paswan made three key announcements:

  1. No surprise if he contests the Assembly polls—similar to past practices where central ministers have run for state legislature.

  2. Affirmed that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar remains a stable and unchallenged figure within the ruling alliance and is expected to retain his position with even stronger legislative support.

  3. Urged opposition parties to refrain from politicizing rising crime, acknowledging public concern while praising police action and accountability.

“Contesting Assembly Poll No Shock”: Strategic Clarity

Paswan emphasized that his decision to run for a Bihar Legislative Assembly seat is part of a broader democratic trend.

“If I choose to contest, it will not be unprecedented—many central ministers have done so before,” he stated.
He clarified that coalition partners are fueling false narratives, and that his electoral intent and seat allocation strategies will be decided by the central Parliamentary Board of the NDA alliance.

This addresses swirling speculation following his son Ram’s entry into national politics and occasional friction within the NDA on seat-sharing arrangements.

Support for Nitish Kumar: A Unified NDA Urges Continuity

With outgoing suggestions, Chirag Paswan firmly defended Nitish Kumar’s position as CM, stressing resolve within the alliance:

“Let me make it clear—this state has a stable CM. Next time too, Nitish Kumar will lead, with more legislators than before.”

The address came amid reports of a struggling alliance and talks of future leadership change, but Paswan’s remarks suggest a strategic attempt at reinforcing government unity and dampening speculation.

Bihar Crime Wave: Opposition Accused of Politicization

Addressing the spike in law-and-order incidents, Chirag said:

“We are deeply concerned about rising crime. We have voiced that concern. The opposition should not turn it into politics. Our satisfaction lies in seeing police action being taken against perpetrators.”

This is a strategic counter-narrative to the opposition’s criticism, and an effort to claim credit for visible progress in crime containment while distancing from being in the government.

LJP(R)’s Position in NDA: A Clarifying Transaction

Chirag emphasized that his party’s influence in Bihar’s governance is limited to alliance cooperation and not policy-making.

“We have no role in determining state government policies,” he clarified—likely intended to deflect blame for any perceived governmental failings.

With LJP(R) preparing for its own assembly campaign under his leadership, lines between collaboration and autonomy are being drawn explicitly.

Potential Implications Ahead of the July-August Polls

  1. Chirag’s possible candidacy can boost NDA morale in key constituencies—especially Saran, Gopalganj, and East Champaran.

  2. Nitish’s continued dominance may help rebuff factions within JDU and prevent defections, while signaling collective strength.

  3. Crime narrative may be reframed as “law enforcement success” and used against the opposition to reduce their traction.

  4. LJP(R) positioning clarifies its role as an NDA junior partner—not idle in campaigning, but limited in governance influence.

These moves appear timed to strengthen NDA’s cohesion, shore up leadership, and clarify roles, all while staving off opposition advances.

 Wider Context: Bihar’s Political Theatre

 Major Player – Nitish Kumar

  • In power since 2015, alternating alliances with RJD and BJP

  • Focused on social welfare, infrastructure, and women empowerment

  • Current support base within NDA debates his continuation

 BJP’s Role

  • Dominant partner within NDA with 74 Assembly seats

  • Coordination with allies seen under strain – this move may reaffirm harmony

 Opposition Rising

  • RJD, Congress, and Left buoyed by recent raids and arrests

  • Strategy to capitalize on rising crime—countered by NDA’s law-and-order claims

 Chirag Paswan’s Niche

  • Positioning as youth and student leader, formerly with BJP; reoriented focus strategically

Chirag Paswan’s comments are carefully calibrated ahead of Bihar’s crucial 2025 Assembly elections. By affirming Nitish Kumar’s leadership, clarifying his own political path, and framing crime as a resolved issue under law enforcement, he is effectively communicating strength, strategy, and unity—central components of the NDA’s campaign narrative.
