KKN Gurugram Desk | In a fresh political confrontation ahead of the 2025 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has accused the Bihar state administration of deliberately obstructing a scheduled student interaction program by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in Darbhanga. The party alleges that the move was made under pressure from the so-called ‘Super CM’, in an indirect reference to BJP’s influence over the Nitish Kumar-led state government.

The Congress’s Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru addressed a press conference at Sadaqat Ashram, Patna, on Friday, leveling serious accusations against the state bureaucracy and BJP ministers, stating that permissions were revoked at the last minute due to political pressure.

Key Highlights

  • Congress claims Rahul Gandhi’s student interaction in Darbhanga was blocked by state authorities

  • Accusations aimed at a ‘Super CM’, indirectly pointing at BJP’s growing control over Bihar

  • Allegation that permission for Ambedkar Hostel event was suddenly withdrawn

  • Rahul Gandhi says he was not allowed to meet Dalit students or enter hostel

  • Two FIRs filed against Rahul Gandhi after the incident

  • Congress vows not to back down under pressure

What Happened in Darbhanga?

According to Congress officials, Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the Dr. Ambedkar Welfare Hostel in Darbhanga was initially cleared by local administration. The event, intended to facilitate a dialogue between Gandhi and students—many of them from Dalit backgrounds—was scheduled as part of the party’s ongoing outreach campaign focused on social justice and education reforms.

However, the Congress claims that permission was revoked just hours before the event, following a meeting between BJP ministers and local administrative officials. Allavaru stated that this decision was politically motivated and aimed at suppressing Rahul Gandhi’s interaction with students demanding caste census implementation and reservation reforms.

Congress In-Charge: ‘Super CM Runs the State, Not Nitish Kumar’

Krishna Allavaru made a scathing statement during the press briefing:

“The administrative cooperation was there in the beginning. But suddenly, under instructions from the so-called Super CM, the authorities created hurdles. If Nitish Kumar were truly the Chief Minister, he wouldn’t have allowed even one percent obstruction to Rahul Gandhi meeting the students.”

Allavaru further alleged that the entire episode was part of a broader pattern of Dalit suppression by the BJP-JDU alliance, saying:

“If you keep firing at us politically, don’t expect us to act like BJP and observe a ceasefire. We are not backing down from connecting with students or the public.”

Rahul Gandhi Responds: ‘Stop Me if You Can’

After returning to Delhi from Bihar, Rahul Gandhi addressed the media and shared his version of the incident:

“Initially, there was no objection. But all of a sudden, I was told I couldn’t go to the hostel. They said it wasn’t allowed. Later, I saw video footage and realized the conditions in the hostel were appalling. Still, I told them—if you want to stop me, go ahead. If not, I’m going in.”

Gandhi added that his visit included discussions on:

  • Implementation of caste-based census

  • Demands to extend reservation quotas to private universities

  • Breaking the 50% reservation cap imposed by courts

Despite being blocked, Rahul claimed that he made his way to the students and held impromptu discussions outside the hostel.

Legal Repercussions: FIRs Against Rahul Gandhi

Following the events in Darbhanga, two FIRs have been filed against Rahul Gandhi, alleging he entered a restricted zone and held a public gathering without formal permission.

In response, Gandhi brushed off the legal complaints, saying:

“So what if there are two more FIRs? I already have 30–32 cases against me. This doesn’t change my commitment to speak for the people.”

State Congress President: ‘BJP-JDU Alliance Is Anti-Dalit’

At the same press event, Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram slammed the Nitish Kumar government, accusing it of being hostile towards marginalized communities:

“What happened in Darbhanga reflects the BJP-JDU government’s anti-Dalit mindset. They want to silence the voice of those fighting for dignity and representation.”

Ram reiterated the Congress party’s stance on caste-based datainclusive education, and Dalit student welfare, claiming these topics make the ruling establishment uncomfortable.

Background: Caste Census and Reservation Politics

The incident in Darbhanga occurs at a time when caste-based census and reservation in private education are hot-button issues in Indian politics. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress have been aggressively pushing for a national caste census, which they argue is essential to implement “real social justice”.

In contrast, the BJP has largely been cautious on the matter, while JDU under Nitish Kumar has oscillated between supporting caste data and maintaining political neutrality.

Political Reactions and Fallout

BJP’s Response:

BJP leaders in Bihar dismissed the Congress’s allegations as a “drama to gain sympathy.” They claimed that Rahul Gandhi was trying to create unrest by visiting a sensitive location without permission, and that law and order procedures were followed.

A senior BJP minister said:

“No one is above the law. If Rahul Gandhi wanted to meet students, he could have followed due protocol instead of turning it into a political stunt.”

Public Reaction and Social Media Buzz

The incident has gone viral on social media, with divided opinions:

  • Congress supporters hailed Gandhi’s “bold stance” and accused BJP of anti-Dalit policies

  • Critics questioned the timing and motives of the visit

  • Neutral observers noted the growing tension in Bihar politics ahead of the general elections

Hashtags like #RahulInDarbhanga#SuperCMExposed, and #StopDalitVoices trended across X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube.

Electoral Implications for Bihar

With elections on the horizon, this episode is expected to:

  • Deepen the Congress vs BJP-JDU rivalry

  • Mobilize student and Dalit voter bases

  • Bring caste census back into the national narrative

  • Test Nitish Kumar’s influence within his alliance

Bihar remains a key political battleground, and incidents like these are shaping public perception in real time.

The controversy around Rahul Gandhi’s blocked interaction in Darbhanga marks a new phase of political confrontation in Bihar. Whether seen as state overreachbureaucratic caution, or opposition posturing, the event has put caste politics, student rights, and administrative neutrality under the national spotlight.

As FIRs fly and press conferences intensify, the real battle may be one of perception—who truly stands for the marginalized, and who’s using them as political capital.
