KKN Gurugram Desk | The Bihar Government’s Department of Education has taken a significant step by expanding the scope of education in 836 higher secondary schools across the state. These schools will now offer education from classes 6 to 12, marking a transformative shift in the state’s education system. This decision is in line with the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP) and the Prime Minister’s Shri School (PM Shri School) scheme.

The New Decision and Its Impact

Previously, higher secondary schools in Bihar only offered education for classes 9 to 12. However, with this new policy, 836 of these schools will now offer classes from 6 to 8 as well. This expansion will not only enhance the educational experience of students but also significantly change the educational landscape in Bihar. This move is expected to improve educational opportunities and quality for students across the state.

Significance of the New Education Policy (NEP)

Under the NEP 2020, several reforms are being introduced to improve the quality of education across India. The PM Shri Schools scheme is part of this larger effort to modernize and strengthen the education system. With the goal of providing better education, these schools will be upgraded with state-of-the-art facilities, and the teaching methodology will be more student-centric, focusing on critical thinking and holistic development. This initiative aligns with the vision of providing equitable and inclusive education to all students.

Implementation of the New Policy from the Next Academic Session

According to the new directive issued by the Education Department, these 836 higher secondary schools will begin offering classes from 6 to 8 starting the next academic session. The department has instructed district education officers to ensure that adequate numbers of teachers are appointed in these schools to cater to the new classes. This will enable a smooth transition and ensure that students can avail of the enhanced educational offerings from the next session.

Teacher Appointments and School Structure

In the recent directive, Sunil Kumar, the Additional Secretary of the Education Department, mentioned that middle schools already offering classes 1 to 8 will now have a separate unit for primary education (classes 1-5). These primary units will function independently, while the classes 6 to 8 will be merged with the higher secondary schools. Additionally, the position of Principal will be created specifically for these primary schools to ensure that the education system is managed efficiently.

This change is not just about expanding the curriculum but also about enhancing the administrative structure to ensure that schools can handle the increased student intake and the additional workload efficiently.

The Goal of Education Reform

The ultimate objective of this decision is to improve the quality of education and provide better opportunities for students. With the introduction of classes 6 to 12, students in these 836 schools will now have access to a broader range of educational content and will be better equipped to perform well in higher education and competitive exams. This change will help students gain a more comprehensive and well-rounded education, preparing them for a variety of challenges in the future.

The decision by the Bihar government to offer classes 6 to 12 in 836 higher secondary schools is a significant step towards improving the quality of education in the state. This decision, in line with the New Education Policy, will open new opportunities for students and help them enhance their academic skills. The inclusion of classes 6 to 8 will provide a more seamless transition between middle school and higher secondary education.

By improving teacher appointments and restructuring the administrative framework, the Bihar government is ensuring that the new education policy will be implemented effectively. This reform is a crucial move towards building a more robust education system in Bihar and providing students with better educational opportunities.
