KKN Gurugram Desk | A joyful wedding celebration turned into a devastating tragedy in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, when a car carrying 12 family members overturned into a roadside ditch, claiming the lives of six people, including four from the same family. The fatal accident occurred late Friday night near the Bhoopaurwa bend in the Manjhila station area.

According to local police officials, five people died on the spot, while a sixth succumbed to injuries at Lucknow Trauma Centre. The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the local community, turning wedding festivities into mourning.

Accident Details: Car Loses Control Near Bhoopaurwa Bend

The vehicle, returning from a wedding ceremony in Kusuma , reportedly lost control around 1:00 AM near a sharp curve, leading to the vehicle plunging into a ditch. The impact was severe enough to cause instant deaths and serious injuries among other passengers.

Key Points:

  • Accident Time: Around 1:00 AM, Saturday

  • Location: Bhoopaurwa bend, Manjhila police limits, Hardoi

  • Vehicle: Private car carrying 12 passengers

  • Casualties: 6 confirmed dead, others injured

  • Survivors: Admitted to Shahabad CHC and Hardoi District Hospital

Victims Identified: Four from the Same Family Among the Dead

The car was carrying relatives of Sevakram Kashyap, a resident of Patiyanim locality in Pali town, Hardoi, whose son Neeraj was married on Friday night. The returning vehicle included several close family members, including:

  • Jitendra Kashyap (Sevakram’s nephew)

  • Akash (Jitendra’s younger brother)

  • Siddharth (Jitendra’s son)

  • Johri, brother-in-law from Kilakili village, Pali police limits

All four were confirmed among the deceased. The remaining victims were neighbors and friends from the same locality.

Sequence of Events: From Ceremony to Catastrophe

After the ‘Dwarachar’ and ‘Jaimala’ ceremonies, which extended late into the night, the family decided to return home to Pali from Kusuma village. The car, reportedly moving at high speed, skidded and overturned near a curve while crossing through Bhoopaurwa, a known accident-prone zone.

According to police sources, the driver lost control, likely due to fatigue or over-speeding, resulting in the tragic accident.

Immediate Response and Rescue Efforts

On receiving emergency alerts, Manjhila Police Station officials rushed to the accident site. Local residents, awakened by the noise, also assisted in rescue operations, helping extract victims from the wreckage.

Emergency Steps Taken:

  • Ambulances dispatched immediately from Shahabad CHC

  • Five declared dead on arrival at Shahabad hospital

  • Injured referred to Hardoi District Hospital

  • One victim, in critical condition, airlifted to Lucknow Trauma Centre, later succumbed

SP Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, who visited the site and the hospital, confirmed the casualties and ongoing treatment for the injured.

Names of the Deceased (As per Initial Reports)

  1. Jitendra Kashyap – Pali, Hardoi

  2. Siddharth (Son of Jitendra)

  3. Akash (Brother of Jitendra)

  4. Johri (Brother-in-law, Kilakili village)

  5. Unnamed driver

  6. Sixth victim (identity confirmed at Lucknow Trauma Centre)

Police officials are currently in the process of verifying the full identities and informing extended family members.

Community in Mourning: Wedding Turns into Funeral Preparations

What began as a day of celebration in the Kashyap household has now become a site of unimaginable grief. The festive mood has shifted to mourning, as funeral preparations are underway for the deceased.

Relatives and neighbors have gathered at Sevakram’s residence to offer support. The town of Pali is overwhelmed by the tragedy, as four lives from a single family were lost in an instant.

A local resident said:

“Just hours ago, we were dancing at the wedding. Now we are arranging for cremations. This is unbearable.”

Police Investigation: Over-Speeding and Night Driving Under Scanner

While no foul play is suspected, preliminary police investigations point to driver error as the cause. Over-speeding, combined with possible driver fatigue, especially during post-midnight driving on poorly lit , likely contributed to the accident.

A local traffic inspector stated:

“This bend near Bhoopaurwa has seen accidents before. The road lacks reflectors and safety barriers. Drivers unfamiliar with the terrain are especially at risk.”

Authorities are also examining whether seat belts were used and if the vehicle was overloaded beyond its capacity.

Accident-Prone Zones in Hardoi Need Urgent Safety Measures

The incident has once again raised questions about road safety infrastructure in rural Uttar Pradesh. The Bhoopaurwa turn, where the crash occurred, is not new to mishaps. Locals have repeatedly demanded:

  • Road signage and speed breakers

  • Proper lighting and fencing

  • Warning signals before sharp turns

Despite these concerns, limited intervention from the Public Works Department (PWD) has led to recurrent fatalities in the region.

Medical and Government Response

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Hardoi confirmed that:

  • All medical facilities are on high .

  • Counselors and grief support teams are being dispatched to families of the deceased.

The District Magistrate has announced:

  • An ex-gratia  package for the families of victims.

  • Free medical treatment for all injured passengers.

  • A detailed accident report to be submitted within 48 hours.

Legal Proceedings and FIR Status

Police have registered a case under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) against unknown persons, pending further investigation. Since the driver also perished, the case may be closed after procedural formality, unless other parties are found culpable.

Road Safety Recommendations from Experts

Traffic safety experts recommend:

  • No night travel after 11:00 PM on rural highways

  • Use of alternate drivers for long-distance trips

  • Installation of GPS-based alert systems for speed control

  • Stricter enforcement of seat belt usage and passenger limits

The Hardoi wedding return accident is yet another grim reminder of India’s alarming road safety scenario. With over 1.5 lakh deaths annually due to road accidents, such tragedies often go beyond statistics—leaving behind shattered families and irreparable emotional scars.

As the families begin cremation and prayer rituals today, the state government and concerned authorities must take immediate preventive actions to ensure that such heartbreaking losses are never repeated.
