In a heartbreaking incident on Saturday morning, three young men lost their lives in a high-speed road accident on the Meerut-Baghpat highway, near Rohta block. The accident occurred when a motorcycle carrying three youths collided head-on with a speeding tractor-trolley loaded with bricks while attempting to avoid hitting a pedestrian.
The collision, which took place around 7:30 AM, was so intense that the tractor-trolley overturned, killing all three riders on the spot. The pedestrian survived, but the scene left witnesses shaken and the local community in shock.
According to eyewitness accounts and police reports, the three victims—all residents of Kaithwari village under Rohta police jurisdiction—were traveling on a motorcycle from Meerut to Baraut.
At approximately 7:30 AM, the trio was passing near the Rohta block gate.
A pedestrian suddenly attempted to cross the road, appearing in front of the bike.
In an attempt to save the pedestrian, the bike rider swerved, but at the same moment, a tractor-trolley loaded with bricks came from the opposite direction at high speed.
The bike and tractor-trolley collided head-on, leading to a horrifying crash.
The tractor-trolley overturned, and all three young men were crushed to death on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as:
Shehzad (22), son of Alauddin
Arshad (19), son of Rahees
Roju (18), son of Abdul
All three were residents of Kaithwari village, a locality just a few kilometers from the site of the crash. Families and villagers rushed to the scene as soon as news of the tragedy spread.
The bodies were taken into custody by the Rohta police, and later sent for post-mortem examination. Officials have confirmed that an investigation into the cause and responsibility for the accident is currently underway.
The tractor-trolley, carrying a heavy load of bricks, lost balance after the impact and overturned in the middle of the road. Thankfully, the pedestrian, whose sudden movement triggered the accident, survived with minor injuries. However, the crash scene was devastating, and locals reported screams and chaos immediately after the collision.
Within minutes, a crowd gathered at the accident site, blocking the road and demanding action against the vehicle driver. Many onlookers expressed concern about the increasing number of fatal road accidents on this route, citing overspeeding, lack of enforcement, and reckless driving by heavy vehicle operators as major issues.
This is not the first time that the Meerut-Baraut road, particularly the Rohta section, has witnessed a fatal accident. Locals have often raised alarms over the following:
Poor road planning and maintenance
Unregulated movement of heavy vehicles, especially in the early morning hours
Absence of traffic signals or designated pedestrian crossings near block gates
Lack of speed breakers or warning signs in critical zones
According to road safety reports from previous years, this stretch of road has been flagged as accident-prone, especially during morning and evening rush hours.
Authorities have also assured that CCTV footage from nearby establishments is being collected to reconstruct the exact sequence of events.
Back in Kaithwari, the air is heavy with mourning. All three victims were described by their neighbors as well-mannered and hardworking youths, who were pursuing different vocations and contributing to their families.
Community leaders and local residents gathered at the homes of the deceased to offer condolences. Many demanded that the administration take strict action to improve road safety infrastructure, especially on high-risk routes like the Meerut-Baghpat highway.
This tragic incident highlights a growing concern across Uttar Pradesh. According to data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, UP consistently ranks among the states with the highest number of road accident fatalities in India.
Key reasons include:
Over-speeding of commercial vehicles
Lack of enforcement of traffic laws
Poorly designed roads
Inadequate signage and lighting
If stringent measures are not implemented, such tragedies are likely to repeat.
Residents from Rohta and adjoining areas are now demanding:
Immediate installation of speed breakers and warning signs
Deployment of traffic police or surveillance systems in accident-prone zones
Strict penalties for overspeeding and overloading of goods vehicles
Regular safety audits of key highways
Social media users and local news readers have also begun trending hashtags like #MeerutAccident, #JusticeForVictims, and #RoadSafetyNow, calling for urgent reform.
The Rohta accident in Meerut, which claimed the lives of three promising young men, serves as a grim reminder of the dangers lurking on Indian roads. It underscores the urgent need for stricter regulation, driver accountability, and infrastructure improvements to prevent similar loss of life in the future.
