A horrific accident on NH-27 in Darbhanga claimed three lives on Tuesday morning. A speeding truck collided head-on with an e-rickshaw near Ayubnagar Chowk, dragging it nearly 100 meters. One woman is critically injured and receiving treatment.
The truck, heading from Darbhanga to Madhubani, lost control after a tire burst. It hit an oncoming e-rickshaw carrying four passengers. The collision was violent, and three people died instantly.
The deceased have been identified as:
Sanjida Khatoon (50)
Firoza Khatoon (50)
Vikas Mandal (30) – e-rickshaw driver
Nadima Khatoon (45) survived with critical injuries and is being treated at a private hospital in Sakri.
All the women were related by marriage and were returning from a relative’s funeral when the accident happened.
Eyewitnesses say the truck’s front tire burst, causing it to swerve uncontrollably. It collided with the e-rickshaw and dragged it for nearly 100 meters. Locals described the scene as “horrific.”
Driver Vikas Mandal was reportedly going to his in-laws’ home and had offered the women a lift. His body was severely damaged in the crash.
The truck driver fled the scene after the accident. Police have seized both vehicles and launched an investigation.
Police from Bhalpattti and Sadar stations reached the site. The bodies were sent for post-mortem at DMCH. Efforts are on to trace the truck’s ownership and arrest the driver.
NH-27 has seen multiple deadly accidents due to over-speeding, tire bursts, and unregulated truck movement. Locals are demanding better enforcement and separate lanes for light vehicles.
