Aamir Khan, the iconic Bollywood actor, has always been open about his personal life, shedding light on his relationships and struggles. One such chapter was his marriage to Reena Dutta, whom he married at a very young age. While their union started off with love and happiness, it eventually ended in divorce in 2001. The actor has often mentioned that the aftermath of his separation was one of the most difficult phases of his life. In recent statements, Aamir Khan has revealed how his depression and struggles with alcoholism became prominent after the divorce and how his close friends, including Salman Khan and Juhi Chawla, played a significant role in helping him overcome those tough times.

Aamir Khan’s Divorce from Reena Dutta: A Heartbreaking Turn

Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta were married in the early years of Aamir’s career. Their marriage was often considered a low-key affair, especially considering the glitz and glamour of the film industry. However, despite their close relationship, the couple struggled with personal differences, which led to their divorce in 2001 after over 15 years of marriage. Aamir, known for his intense and emotionally driven roles, struggled to cope with the end of his marriage, which eventually had a profound impact on his personal and professional life.

The emotional turmoil of the divorce took a toll on Aamir’s mental health, pushing him into a phase of depression that lasted for several months. This period of grief and sadness led him to adopt destructive coping mechanisms, which included alcohol consumption. Aamir, who had always been known for his discipline and focus, found himself unable to handle the pressures and stress that came with the end of his marriage.

Aamir Khan’s Struggles with Depression and Alcoholism

In a candid interview, Aamir Khan admitted that after his divorce, he spiraled into depression, and alcohol became his escape. “I used to drink every night for 18 months,” Aamir shared. “I became dependent on alcohol, and it was my way of dealing with the emotional pain. I would often find myself passing out after drinking and feeling completely numb.”

During this period, Aamir’s personal life was in chaos. His once-focused approach to life seemed to disintegrate as he struggled to come to terms with the end of his marriage and the emotional strain it caused. Despite being one of the biggest stars in Bollywood, the actor found himself lost and disconnected, which was in stark contrast to his public persona of confidence and success.

Support from Salman Khan and Juhi Chawla During Dark Times

During this dark period, Aamir found solace and support from two of his closest friends in the industry – Salman Khan and Juhi Chawla. Both of them were instrumental in helping Aamir navigate through his troubled times.

Salman Khan, who has been Aamir’s close friend for years, was there for him when he needed someone the most. Salman, known for his larger-than-life personality and infectious energy, spent countless hours with Aamir, taking him out for dinners and offering a much-needed distraction from the emotional turmoil. Aamir shared that Salman would often drop by his house, spending time with him to make sure he wasn’t alone during his hardest moments. “Salman was always there for me. He would bring me out of my shell and give me the space to heal,” Aamir reflected.

Similarly, Juhi Chawla, Aamir’s co-star in the film “Darr” and many other successful projects, provided him with emotional support during his lowest points. Despite being busy with her own career, Juhi took time to check on Aamir and ensure he was taking care of himself. Aamir acknowledged that her presence and understanding helped him cope with the depression and the aftermath of the divorce.

Aamir Khan’s Recovery and Overcoming Alcoholism

The turning point in Aamir Khan’s life came when he realized that his destructive habits were only making things worse. The realization prompted him to seek help and work towards overcoming alcoholism. He consciously made the decision to step away from alcohol and work on healing his emotional wounds.

“I knew I had to get better. I couldn’t let this phase define me. It took time, but slowly, I distanced myself from alcohol,” Aamir said in an interview. His decision to quit drinking was not easy, but he drew strength from his close friends, his family, and his professional commitments. Eventually, Aamir made a successful comeback to the Bollywood industry, where he continued to rise as one of the most respected and influential actors in the country.

Life After Divorce: Aamir Khan’s Personal Growth

After his divorce from Reena Dutta, Aamir Khan went through a period of personal growth. He realized that he needed to focus on his well-being and mental health. The actor, who had once been all about perfectionism, now began embracing his vulnerabilities. He found new avenues for growth, both personally and professionally.

Aamir’s career took off in a new direction after he conquered his personal struggles. He continued to take on challenging and meaningful roles, with films like “Lagaan,” “Taare Zameen Par,” “PK,” and “Dangal” earning him critical acclaim. His success became a testimony to the fact that overcoming personal challenges can lead to greater heights, both professionally and personally.

Moreover, Aamir’s relationship with Kiran Rao, whom he married in 2005, has been a testament to his emotional maturity. The two have been partners in both life and work, and their bond has been one of mutual respect and support. Although Aamir has since divorced Kiran Rao in 2021, he continues to maintain a strong bond with his ex-wife and their son, Azad.

Aamir Khan’s journey from a broken marriage to overcoming depression and alcohol addiction is a testament to his resilience and personal strength. While his divorce from Reena Dutta was a difficult chapter, it allowed Aamir to emerge stronger and more grounded. The support from his close friends, including Salman Khan and Juhi Chawla, played an essential role in helping Aamir get back on track.

Aamir Khan is not only regarded as one of the finest actors in Bollywood but also as an example of perseverance and self-realization. His ability to confront his demons, admit his vulnerabilities, and come out stronger has inspired many. Whether on-screen or off-screen, Aamir Khan continues to remain an influential figure, proving that even the darkest phases of life can lead to personal growth and success.
