UP NEET PG 2025: 12 Candidates Banned from Participating in UP NEET PG Counseling for Not Accepting Allotted Seats

KKN Gurugram Desk | The Uttar Pradesh Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME, UP) has announced strict measures for candidates who failed to accept their allotted seats during the previous year’s stray vacancy round or left their courses midway after admission. A total of 12 candidates have been banned from participating in the UP NEET PG 2025 counseling process due to their non-compliance with the admission procedure.

The notice issued by DGME, UP states that these 12 candidates will not be allowed to take part in the UP NEET PG Counseling 2025. It further warns that any candidate who refuses to take admission after being allotted a seat in the stray vacancy round will have their security deposit forfeited and will be banned from participating in the next round of counseling for the 2025-26 academic session.

Reasons Behind the Ban on Candidates

The UP NEET PG 2025 counseling ban on these candidates stems from incidents in the previous year when some students who were allotted seats during the stray vacancy round failed to accept them. This left several seats vacant, which caused unnecessary disruption and impacted the overall counseling process. As per the notice, the candidates who were allotted seats but did not proceed with the admission or withdrew midway after being admitted to the course will face stringent penalties.

The DGME, UP has released a list of 9 candidates who failed to accept their allotted seats during the stray vacancy round and have been banned from participating in the 2025 counseling session. Additionally, the department has issued a separate list of 3 candidates who were admitted last year but left their courses before completion.

New Guidelines for UP NEET PG 2025 Counseling

According to the rules, if a candidate accepts a seat in a government or private medical or dental college but later leaves the course before completion, they will be debarred from taking part in the next academic session’s entrance exam. This move is aimed at reducing seat wastage and ensuring that seats in medical colleges are occupied by candidates who are genuinely committed to completing the course.

The UP NEET PG 2025 counseling will officially begin in July 2025, and candidates who have previously failed to follow the admission procedures will not be eligible to participate this time. The DGME, UP had also informed candidates about these stringent rules in the previous year’s counseling process.

The Impact of Last Year’s Decision

The introduction of stricter guidelines for the UP NEET PG Counseling process started in July 2024, and its impact is already being felt this year. A senior official from the Department of Medical Education explained the rationale behind the ban: “The new provision was implemented because, in the past, several students accepted seats but later abandoned them, leading to vacant seats in the related colleges. This caused unnecessary disruption in the admission process.” The official also mentioned that before 2024, the number of such cases was relatively higher. However, with the introduction of these strict measures, there is an expectation that this practice will be significantly reduced in the coming years.

Availability of PG Seats in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh offers a total of over 4,000 PG seats across government and private medical colleges. Among these, 1,871 seats are available in government colleges for courses like MD, MS, and Diplomas, while 2,100 seats are available in private medical colleges. Additionally, 250 seats have been introduced for super-speciality courses, making it an attractive opportunity for medical graduates pursuing further specialization.

However, these numbers are subject to changes based on various factors such as the demand for specific courses, availability of faculty, and changes in government policies. The stray vacancy round in the counseling process plays an important role in filling up these seats. Therefore, any candidate who disrupts this process by refusing an allotted seat or abandoning the course mid-way only adds to the challenges faced by the medical education department.

Consequences for Medical Institutions and Students

The repercussions of seat wastage are far-reaching. When candidates refuse their allotted seats, it results in wasted resources for both the institutions and the government. The medical colleges are forced to accommodate new candidates at the last moment, and the unfilled seats can affect the reputation and functioning of these institutions.

For candidates, the ban is a serious consequence, as it prevents them from participating in the counseling process for the upcoming academic year. This can delay their entry into post-graduate medical courses and impact their long-term career plans. Students who had initially shown interest but later chose not to accept their admission will find it challenging to make up for lost time and opportunities.

The new guidelines serve to strengthen the integrity of the UP NEET PG counseling process by ensuring that only those candidates who are serious about their medical education and career are granted admission. The objective is not just to fill seats but to maintain a fair and transparent admission process that benefits both the institutions and the candidates.

Moreover, the penalties imposed on candidates who fail to comply with the rules reflect a growing commitment to streamlining medical education in the state. The medical education department aims to reduce the number of unfilled seats, ensuring that more qualified professionals enter the medical field and contribute to the healthcare system.

The UP NEET PG Counseling 2025 process will likely witness more stringent rules and more organized procedures, which could improve the overall efficiency of medical admissions. With the number of candidates vying for limited seats, it is crucial that the system is kept transparent and fair to give everyone an equal chance at securing a seat.

The DGME, UP will continue to monitor the counseling process closely and take necessary actions to ensure that there is no wastage of seats. With over 4,000 PG seats available, candidates must be diligent and committed throughout the admission process to avoid facing the consequences of non-compliance.
