KKN Gurugram Desk | As Bihar gears up for the upcoming 2025 Assembly Elections, political movements have started gaining momentum. In a significant political development, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief and Union Minister Chirag Paswan met with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday, May 19, at the latter’s residence in Patna.

This high-profile meeting, just months ahead of the state elections, has sparked intense political speculation. However, Chirag Paswan made it clear that there is currently “no vacancy for the Chief Minister’s post” in Bihar, signaling support for Nitish Kumar’s continued leadership under the NDA alliance.

The Meeting: A Display of Political Courtesy and Alliance Strength

The meeting took place at CM Nitish Kumar’s official residence in the presence of Bihar government minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary. Chirag Paswan was accompanied by his brother-in-law and Jamui MP Arun Bharti.

Paswan presented a bouquet to the Chief Minister and the two were seen sharing smiles and cordial greetings. The atmosphere during the meeting was friendly and positive, a sharp contrast to earlier tensions between the two leaders during past election cycles.

Chirag Paswan’s Statement: Full Support for Nitish Kumar

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Chirag Paswan strongly endorsed Nitish Kumar’s leadership within the NDA:

“Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is leading our NDA alliance in Bihar. I not only hope but firmly believe that after the upcoming elections, under his leadership and aligned with PM Modi’s vision, Bihar will have a strong and stable government.”

He added emphatically:

“As of now, there is no vacancy for the Chief Minister’s post in Bihar.”

This public declaration serves two purposes — it squashes any rumors of LJP staking a claim for the top post in the state, and it strengthens the image of NDA unity in the run-up to elections.

Political Context: Why This Meeting Matters

The Chirag-Nitish meeting is significant given the previous rift between the two leaders. In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Chirag Paswan ran his party separately from the NDA, directly challenging Nitish Kumar and fielding LJP candidates against JD(U).

While this move was seen as an attempt to weaken JD(U), it backfired and created friction within the alliance. However, the post-2020 political climate has seen realignment within the NDA, especially with JD(U) rejoining the alliance at the national level and LJP (Ram Vilas) being a central ally.

This meeting, therefore, is a clear attempt at consolidating NDA’s position in Bihar, especially as the opposition INDIA bloc prepares for a tough contest.

Bihar Elections 2025: NDA Strategy in Focus

With Bihar heading for polls later this year, political parties have begun outlining their alliances and leadership strategies. The NDA, which includes BJP, JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas), and smaller allies, is projecting unity and continuity by reaffirming Nitish Kumar’s leadership.

The message from Chirag Paswan, a youth icon and prominent Dalit leader, also helps NDA appeal to young and marginalized voters. His support adds strength to the alliance’s social coalition and helps dispel any internal leadership conflicts.

 Highlights from the Meeting

  • Venue: CM Nitish Kumar’s residence, Patna

  • Participants: CM Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan, Arun Bharti, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary

  • Gesture: Chirag Paswan offered a bouquet to Nitish Kumar

  • Tone: Warm, positive, forward-looking

  • Key Message: No CM post vacancy; full faith in Nitish’s leadership

A Look Back: Chirag and Nitish’s Political Journey

While both leaders are part of the NDA now, their political equations have been rocky in the past:

  • In 2020, Chirag criticized Nitish Kumar’s governance and projected himself as the future CM of Bihar.

  • JD(U) was deeply unhappy with LJP’s strategy, blaming Chirag for hurting the NDA’s seat share.

  • However, after JD(U)’s return to the NDA in 2023, political maturity and pragmatism have taken precedence.

Now, with a united front being seen as crucial to counter the opposition, both leaders appear to have buried the hatchet.

What This Means for Bihar Politics

  • ✅ Reinforces Nitish Kumar as NDA’s unanimous CM face

  • ✅ Shows LJP (Ram Vilas)’s loyalty to BJP and NDA

  • ✅ Projects an image of unity and reconciliation within the NDA

  • ✅ Sends a strong signal to opposition parties of NDA’s preparedness

  • ✅ Clears the air around CM ambitions of Chirag Paswan

Chirag Paswan’s clear endorsement of Nitish Kumar, just months ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, reaffirms the NDA’s internal cohesion and leadership clarity. By putting to rest any speculation regarding the chief ministerial race, the alliance has sent a message of stability, unity, and preparation.

As Bihar’s political temperature rises, this high-level meeting sets the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle, with NDA poised to project strength and continuity.
