At around 2:00 AM, while navigating a curve near Chakwa, the car collided head-on with a heavy-duty truck traveling at high speed. The truck did not stop after the collision, and a manhunt is underway to trace the vehicle.
Primary causes identified:
-
Overcrowding in the passenger vehicle
-
Speeding truck on a narrow rural road
-
Possible fatigue or sleepiness of drivers during night-time travel
Police Response and Rescue Operation
Police from the nearby Rehra Bazar police station rushed to the spot after receiving calls from locals who heard the loud crash. Rescue operations continued for nearly two hours as authorities used cutting equipment to extract victims trapped in the mangled vehicle.
The deceased were taken for postmortem examinations, while the injured were shifted to Balrampur District Hospital in police and ambulance vans.
Balrampur SP issued a statement saying:
“We are investigating the cause of the accident and trying to identify the truck involved. FIR has been registered, and we are taking strict action.”

-
“Two small children… gone in an instant. How will their parents live now?” said a grieving neighbor.
Villagers have also criticized the lack of proper lighting and signage on the Bahraich road, demanding immediate infrastructure improvements.
Frequent Accidents in the Region: A Safety Concern

According to official data, Balrampur district has witnessed over 120 road accidents in the past year, with at least 45 fatalities, many of which occurred during the night hours.

Precautions for Safe Travel During Weddings
With wedding season in full swing, authorities are urging families to prioritize travel safety. Overcrowding vehicles and driving late at night on poorly lit highways significantly increase accident risks.
Safety Tips:
-
Do not exceed the passenger capacity of vehicles
-
Avoid night travel on rural highways
-
Use licensed drivers with proper rest
-
Ensure seat belts are worn at all times
-
Always have emergency medical contacts ready
What began as a joyous wedding celebration turned into a night of unimaginable sorrow for families in Gonda. The accident serves as a grim reminder of the fragility of life and the critical importance of road safety.
Authorities must act swiftly — not just in investigating this incident, but in preventing future tragedies through road reforms, stronger traffic law enforcement, and public awareness campaigns.
